What Is Demerara Sugar?

Demerara Sugar is a recognised sugar format identified by its grain style and typical kitchen use. It provides sweetness and also affects browning, texture and moisture in many recipes.

It is not always interchangeable spoon for spoon with every other sugar. Crystal size and recipe function matter, particularly in baking, syrups and toppings.

Why Choose Tate and Lyle Demerara Sugar 500g?

This product is a practical choice if you:

• Sweeten tea, coffee or other drinks.
• Bake cakes, biscuits or traybakes.
• Prepare desserts, sauces or syrups.
• Want demerara sugar for its familiar format.
• Need a 500g pack for household use.

The 500g pack suits regular or recipe-based use, with the number of servings depending on the amount required each time.

Popular Ways to Use Demerara Sugar

This sugar can be used for:

• Sweetening coffee and tea.
• Sprinkling on porridge or cereal.
• Adding a crunchy topping to suitable bakes.
• Making cakes and traybakes that specify demerara.
• Preparing crumbles and dessert toppings.
• Adding to sauces and glazes.
• Making syrups where the recipe calls for demerara.

Measure with the recipe in mind, and allow the crystals to dissolve fully when an even texture is required.
